Blue-eyed Australian, Travis Fimmel, who is now a full-time actor, first gained attention for his modeling campaigns with Calvin Klein in the early days. He’s parlayed billboard notoriety into a number of short-lived TV and independent movie roles, playing the titular character in The WB’s ‘Tarzan’ in 2003, and starring alongside Patrick Swayze in A&E’s ‘The Beast’ in 2009. However, it’s his current leading role in History’s ‘Vikings’ that should provide him his breakout role.
Created by Michael Hirst, ‘Vikings’ is the latest in a long line of lavish historical adaptations from the writer-producer, whose credits include the Oscar-winning film ‘Elizabeth’ and the decadent Showtime series “The Tudors.’
Fimmel gained weight and grew facial hair to give himself a rugged look to play fierce warrior/farmer Ragnar Lothbrok, a curious, compelling man always looking to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer.
The nine-episode series, which premiered March 3, airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on History Channel.
